Dr. Michael Brooks

Dr. Michael Brooks is a long time resident of Fort Worth who was born and raised in the Stop Six section of the city. He graduated from Nolan High School and then attended Howard University in Washington D.C. At Howard, he completed his undergraduate degree and medical degree in a six year combined program. He trained as a general surgeon at Howard University Hospital and then returned to Fort Worth in 1990 to join his father, Dr. Donald Brooks in private practice. He has continued to practice surgery in Fort Worth and Dallas for the past 32 years. Dr. Brooks has been very involved in medical staff leadership as well as community service during his career. He served as Vice Chief of Staff and then Chief of Staff at Medical City Fort Worth hospital. He also held medical staff leadership positions at other Fort Worth hospitals including vice chief of Surgery and member of the physician health and rehab committee at Texas Health Fort Worth. He was chair of the Medical Advisory Board and member of the governing board at Plaza Day Surgery. He was the Program Director of the Surgery Residency at Medical City Fort Worth. He served as the North Texas Regional Medical Director for the Surgicalist Group. His community service has included serving as a volunteer for the UNCF telethon committee.

He has served as a board member for several organizations including Cassata Learning Center, Fort Worth Metropolitan Black Chamber of Commerce, Living Hope Ministries, BRAVER/R Together, and Southside Community Garden. Dr. Brooks has served the local community by participating in health fares in the underserved community. He has traveled to Kenya with The Potter’s House on a medical mission trip. Dr. Brooks traveled to rural Nigeria several years with Living Hope Ministries on medical mission trips. He founded the surgical services division and provided much needed surgical procedures free of charge to residents who had no access to surgical services. In 2021, Dr. Brooks was inducted into the Nolan High School Hall of Fame.

In his spare time, Dr. Brooks enjoys the practice of yoga, group exercise, cooking, traveling, and occasionally gardening. He is a proud husband of Pavani and father of Alicia, Maya, and Devan.
